NRL players used to catch the ball on their chest and carried the ball under their arm. Today players catch and carry the ball in two hands for quick ball movement. They are taught to place their thumb around the ball for greater ball security which helps the players make fewer errors.
The Claw teaches the players to catch the ball in the fingers or touch pads which are the correct techniques for catching and when holding the ball in the players arm. The Claw teaches the player to get their thumb around the ball helping ball security and also providing an opportunity to offload at any time.
